Brussel sprouts to be renamed ‘Dover sprouts’ after Brexit
Brussel sprouts, Britain’s quintessential Christmas dinner vegetable and roast lunch staple, will be renamed ‘Dover sprouts’ following Brexit.
Former foreign secretary and arch ‘Leave’ supporter, Boris Johnson said the culinary name change was an example of how Britain ‘would take control once it had left the EU bloc’.
“Finally those plump, bright green heads will no longer have the bitter taste of being named after the EU’s anti-democratic capital. For too long have our Christmas dinners been influenced by unelected European faceless bureaucrats.”
“Now when we sit down at the table, the often neglected mini cabbages at the edge of our plates will remind us of the wonder of the white cliffs of Dover – a symbol for Britons everywhere.”
